Keighley Healthy Living

Keighley Healthy Living approached Participate to support them through a period of transition. Like many charities working in the field of health and social care they had seen a significant reduction in Public Sector funding for preventative health work.

We saw the reduction in public funding as an opportunity for Keighley Healthy Living to assess their impact and to re-focus the charity onto the areas where we are best placed to make a difference.

Participate worked with the trustees and management team to reshape their provision to meet the needs of the people of Keighley with a significantly reduced core budget. This strategic review, based on the health issues in Keighley and gaps in service provision from the Public and Voluntary sectors identified the key areas of our work that they need to maintain.

Over the next 6 months Participate supported the team to reshape their service.  This involved cutting some provision, developing new programmes to fill gaps and creating formal signposting and partnership arrangements with other voluntary sector providers in Keighley. An action plan reflecting the needs of the community has been agreed by the trustees and senior management team.

Participate supported Keighley Healthy Living to develop a new fundraising strategy and brought in over £107, 000 within the first 3 months. We also levered in several highly skilled business volunteers who review the policies, practices and procedures of the organisation on a voluntary basis.

Melanie Hey, CEO at KHL said ‘Participate have been a fantastic support to KHL especially helping to successfully gain additional funding and looking at new opportunities. The team have generated lots of ideas around the development of the organisation and solutions to help ensure KHL sustainability. It has been a really positive experience working with Participate.’
